Colocalization of CEP164 and γ-tubulin during early ciliogenesis at days 1 (a) and 3 (b) following removal of apical medium. Basal body marker CEP164 colocalizes with γ-tubulin at the apical cell surface in control BEC cultures and forms a uniform spread of ciliary precursors across the cell. In MWCNT-treated cultures, CEP164 staining is more attenuated and patchy, resulting in fewer, more clumped cilia.
