  1. The concentration-response curves were performed for acetylcholine (ACh), sodium nitroprusside (SNP), and phenylephrine (PE) on aorta from 11-13 weeks old female ApoE-/- mice exposed in vivo to 0.0 or 0.9 mg/kg carbon black i.t. 2 hours before sacrifice, to 0; 0.05; 0.5; 0.9 or 2.7 mg/kg carbon black i.t. 24 hours before sacrifice or twice to 0.0 or 0.5 mg/kg carbon black 24 + 2 hours before sacrifice. The data are expressed as means and 95% CI. The number of animals in each group varied. * denotes statistically significant effects on EC50 or Emax as compared to the effect in the control group (P < 0.05, ANOVA with unequal variance between groups).
